New York City’s 136 School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) are a lifeline for more than 150,000 youth, providing critical primary care, behavioral health, dental services, and sexual, and reproductive health care regardless of insurance coverage or immigration status. Yet, only 31 of these centers receive city funding. The remaining 105 rely on limited federal and state funds. As members of the Downstate Chapter of the New York School-Based Health Alliance (NYSBHA), we are asking the City Council to include $25 million in the FY 26 Budget to support all SBHCs across the city. This investment -- $100,000 per SBHC and $100 per pupil attending that school – will ensure every young person has access to the care they need.
