Provide critical services to children and families during the coronavirus pandemic.

The congressional majority is considering a budget proposal that would significantly reduce funding for SNAP – the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – putting millions at risk of hunger. SNAP is one of the most effective tools for reducing hunger and food insecurity, and these cuts would hurt families in every state – especially children, older adults, and those with disabilities.

Why SNAP Matters:

  • Health: SNAP keeps families healthy, reduces healthcare costs, and supports the well-being of children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Economic impact: Every $1 in SNAP benefits generates up to $1.80 in economic activity. Cuts would hurt small businesses, especially grocery stores.
  •  Long-term benefits: Access to SNAP early in life is proven to improve school performance and future earnings, helping to break the cycle of poverty.

Congress is also considering eliminating the National Education and Obesity Prevention Grant Program —  better known as SNAP-Ed. This would mean the total shutdown of a program that helps families make healthier food choices and stretch their food budgets. Eliminating SNAP-Ed would undermine efforts to build stronger food systems and healthier communities.
